President Biden pardons son Hunter… Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, received a fatherly pardon yesterday. The younger Biden was set for sentencing this month on tax and gun-related charges. The announcement garnered criticism from Republicans, Democrats, and opinion writers alike, who said Biden’s move contradicts his pledge to uphold “norms.” But Biden defenders pointed out GOP hypocrisy of an obsession with Hunter Biden and their misinformation spread against him all the while Donald Trump repeatedly and falsely claimed Democrats weaponized government against him.
Unions score major legal win in Wisconsin… Former gov. Scott Walker’s infamous 2011 law curtailing collecting bargaining rights for public workers was overturned in a Wisconsin circuit court. Dane County Circuit Judge Jacob Frost today restored workers rights to their status prior to the 2011 law. Republicans have vowed to appeal. This ruling marks another example of why down-ballot and court races matter–and another feather in the cap of the Wisconsin Democratic Party. That battle never ends, of course, and an April election for the 4-3 state supreme court will be critical.
Trump and his handpicked Supreme Court are at odds over vaping regs… Lets hear it for the bought-and-paid-for U.S. Supreme Court handpicked by Donald Trump, finally standing up to the president-elect who normally gives them marching orders. The big issue on which the court is standing up to Trump? Vaping regulations. (Yay?) The court today heard arguments brought on by the vaping industry challenging the Biden Administration’s FDA on vaping regulations and seemed by and large skeptical of the industry’s claims. But Trump is expected to ditch those regulations while in office. Biden had Build Back Better–Trump will have Bring Back Vaping.
Assad loses control of Syria’s second-largest city in major win for rebels… It took only three days for combined rebel factions to capture Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city after capital Damascus, from the hands of embattled dictator Bashar al-Assad’s regime. In addition to the blow to Assad, the fall of Aleppo is a major loss for Russia and Iran, who for years have propped up the Syrian dictator but are distracted in conflicts of their choosing with Ukraine and Israel, respectively. Russia, which uses a Syrian port as a Mediterranean naval base as an implied threat to its European adversaries, has reportedly bombed Aleppo after the rebel takeover.

I’m totally in favor of Joe Biden’s pardon of his son, Beau. For all of the reasons mentioned. This continues to get politicized. Had it not been, and had Trump and his cronies and lap dogs try and convince us that the President was involved in some tomfoolery this story would have gone away. I’d have done the same if I were in his shoes.
