The destruction of the public education system has been a priority of the Re-Puke-ican elitists for many decades, deeming only the wealthy deserving of anything in life to upgrade their status. This has been the mentality since the formation of this country, when a group of elitists considered only wealthy landowners as having the intelligence to vote responsibly. Now, by supporting the most venal and corrupt administration ever to darken the halls of government, the wealthy are proving that they lack the intelligence required to carry the country forward, but only backward to those formative days when only the wealthy were considered fit to manage the affairs of the nation, and the remainder to be permanently consigned to stoop labor.
My son is moving to Costa Rica, a move I thoroughly approve and stand behind. My only regret is that I won't be able to see him as often, as we only live a hundred miles apart now.
Warning: echo chamber above. #1 in spending per student, and as of the latest available data, the United States typically ranks around the middle of the pack in international assessments of basic subjects like math and reading. For example, in the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) results, U.S. students ranked 13th in reading and 18th in science, but 37th in math among the 79 countries and economies assessed. Case closed.
I can't help comparing this travesty to the dismantling of the electric railway system. Until GM bought it, it was loved by millions - convenient, comfortable, and dependable, a boon to all. When GM got its hands on it, it progressively degraded it - eliminating stops, failing to maintain the cars, and generally running it into the ground, all to drive people, literally, toward the automotive industry. This is exactly what has been steadily carried out by those who wish to do away with public education: grind it down to the lowest possible level. The only difference is, in this case, unlike the automobile offered as an alternative, those left out will have no other alternative but to live their lives in ignorance, save what they are dished out by the authoritarian rulers. My daughter is involved in early child education, and I dread to think what she will be forced into - or out of.
Politico analyzes how America's institutions of higher education are “caving to Trump with a stunning speed and scope.” Why? Why? Why? Why? I can't say it enough. Why can't they all refute this bullshit. There is power in numbers. If they band and stand firm they prevail. Why????
Destroy education for only one reason: To create a more mailable and easily controlled ignorant permanent population of basically serfs and indentured servants to serve the whims and needs of the Trumpublican Oligarch class.

Gross sick display. I become more ashamed to be an American with each passing day.
